NEWS - UPDATES - AUGUST 2007 NEW
Let Us Pray: O' Lord Jesus Christ, look upon our Country in your mercy and help us with your grace to be all YOU want us to be.
A SPECIAL REPORT TO OUR FRIENDS AND BENEFACTORS
SOBOR 2007
Our Sobor went well. Even though our Brother Bishops from Europe and South America could not come, we still had wonderful fellowship. The Bishops from the United States and Priests from the USA and Canada were present.--- The lay people who were here to help with food preparation kept us all quite full.--- It rained much of the time, including the time for Sunday's outside Liturgy and Bar-B-Que. We had Liturgy in our small chapel that overflowed and then cooked in the grill in the garage and ate inside. We had about 40 people here. It was great. Company was awesome and so was all the food.
MOTHER M. KATERI is elevated to Abbess
On August 19th Mother Kateri was elevated to Abbess of the Little Sisters of Jesus of The Most Blessed Sacrament. Her responsibilities will include the Tertiary Sisters and Nuns. Please keep Mother Kateri in your prayers.
YEARLY SOBOR MEETING being held at Monastery August 17-19, 2007 Many laguages will be spoke during this special visit. Bishops and Priest will be coming from Russia, Ukraine, South America, Malta, Canada and of course the good ole USA. This meeting is where we discuss all the needs of the Church. What has happened and where we are going.
During the Liturgies it will be a sea of color for the vestments of the Bishops and Priests will be awesome. We have decided to open up our Sunday Divine Liturgy to the general public. The service will start at 10:00am. Following you will have a chance to meet everyone and participate in a Bar-be-que. So come and join us.
MONASTERY DESIGNATED AS CATHEDRAL
Our humble Monastery has been blessed and designated as the Cathedral for our Jurisdiction on August 6, 2006. The name of the new Cathedral is 'HOLY TRINITY'. It is the seat of our Metroploitan-Primate, +IOAN for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in America, and of course that of Bishop +Martin for the Diocese of The Mid-West. Holy Trinity Cathedral is the second smallest Cathedral in the United States.
We Still Need You!!!!
With St. Kateri's Home and Helping Hand (Transitional Living Program) steadily moving forward, we still have many debts to pay. Presently we need $2000.00 in order to start delivery of our Fuel Gas again. We were badly behind and cut off of delivery until paid. How bad do we need it? It cooks are food, heats our water, and in the winter supplies our heat. Our tank is at 25% filled at this time. We need help. Won't you please consider us and the men we help.
MEETINGS
This month we have accomplished quite a bit in regards to our Transitional Home. Zoning Commission gave us the green flag to go full force with it. We have met with the Judges, Probation Officers, Community Mental Health, The Sheriff Department, etc. and all have been in agreement with our program. Our next meeting will be with the Attorneys.
TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM
Our program is moving closer to accomplishment. Presently we have one resident. One of our residents graduated our program after being with us 8 months. Soon we hope to move up to full capacity of 5 beds.
Kateri's Home and Helping Hand Ministry We are up and running.
Three of our 5 beds are filled. We will have a fourth resident moving in probably next month. We have referrals now coming from Community Mental Health, County Jail and Native American Alcoholic Treatment Center. Please keep this most vital ministry in your prayers.
August 2005 KATERI HOME and HELPING HAND Kateri’s Home and Helping Hand, a ministry of Our Lady of The Most Blessed Sacrament Monastery, is dedicated to providing our men with a clean & sober living environment structured to facilitate their transition into both the recovering community and society at large. The goal for our residents is to provide them with affordable clean & sober housing which will nurture the development of a healthy recovering support system.
Kateri’s Home is not restricted to those who have alcohol or drug issues, but meet other criteria as well. This may include referrals from the Probation Department as well as Community Mental Health. Therefore the 12 step program may not be required of some residents. These will have a program that meets their individual needs.
DONNATED STATUE OF OUR LADY OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT June 2004 This picture is that of the new statue of OUR LADY OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT that was dedicated and consecrated on Sunday June 13, (May 13 is her Feast Day). It is one of a kind and created by Images Of Heaven. Donated by an anonymous benefactor, she will grace the left side of the altar in the Chapel.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS - Our Holy Mothers Helping Hand Program
Our Holy Mothers Helping Hand Program has been developed to help the community at large. Within this program we have various outreach in the following areas of service. Food Pantry is available everyday for those who are in need. We do not publish our pantry as we are limited. However, since we are listed in the phone directory, yellow pages, we receive many calls for needs. We share what we have with all, without exception. This program also includes the giving of other needs. Over the past year we have helped supply gasoline for those with various transportation needs, clothing, baby formula and diapers, transportation to appointments, etc.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
This really helps the monastery as much as it does those who are doing the Community Service to work off Court fines. It has opened the door to counseling with these individuals and helping them obtain some of the needs that will help them help themselves after. This means working closely with the Court Representative for Community Service Relations.
THE MONASTERY IS STILL ALIVE - THANKS TO YOU
Funding of the monastery has always been on the Divine Providence of Our Lord Jesus Christ, through the donations of others who want to keep this ministry open.. We are only guaranteed at least $500.00 of which I receive from my monthly Disability Check. The mortgage alone is $810.00 per month. To pay the bills we need all together a minimum of $1,600 per month. Each month is a struggle but Almighty God has continued to place His protective hand over us. We have resorted to selling many of the monastery belongings in order to meet the financial responsibility. It has not been easy.
The monastery has been here since November 3, 1997 and through the Grace of Almighty God, the intercession of The Holy Theotokos, St.Teresa of Calcutta, St. Charles deFoucauld and most of all Our Holy Divine Lord, through His merciful and compassionate Eucharistic Heart, it will continue long after I am dead and buried.
This is God’s House, it is your house, it is the house for all who seek Him. Come and visit the Master of this house and find the peace and tranquility that only He can give.
I pray that this report has given insight into what the monastery has accomplished and is working towards. We have many goals and aspirations for the future. Only God knows what will happen. We live in His time and abandon ourselves to His will. Totally in His hands. We must remember that God knows what to do, even if we don’t. We trust in Him in all things.
Your servant always, Little Brothers and Sisters of Jesus of The Most Blessed Sacrament.
STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship is the giving of oneself. Giving can be through ones' time, ones' gifts, or ones' talents. Just as people come in different shapes and sizes, giving can be done in a variety of ways. Father Martin deeply appreciates all forms of stewardship. Examples of different ways of giving include but are not limited to the following: 1) Giving from the heart through prayer and financial assistance. 2) Donating of cakes or other refreshments for special events or meetings. 3) Assisting with weekly cleaning, or with Spring and Fall cleaning of the monastery. 4) Assisting with yard work. 5) Arrange flowers for the chapel. 6) Volunteering to answer the monastery phone when Father Martin cannot be there. 7) Fixing equipment or doing household repairs. 8) Running errands. 9) Making hospital visits and visit the homebound. 10) Open ones' home for visitor overflow during retreats and meetings being held at the monastery. 11) Open ones' home for individuals and/or families who have special needs or are experiencing short term hardships. 12) Organizing the food pantry, including preparing and delivering food baskets. 13) Donating food, health, and cleaning items to the pantry. 14) Taking care of Father Martins' dog, so that he can tend to out of town responsibilities. Most of all we must all practice and live our faith by demonstrating Christ like behavior at all times. Submitted by: Linda Cox and Sr. Kateri
EMERGENCY HOUSING In the case of an emergency, we are able to help with shelter for a short time. In most cases a referral needs to be made by the Police, Fire Dept, Church or a Social Service Agency. We can help families, couples or individuals.
COUNSELING SERVICES We try to be available for your needs whenever possible. A listening ear and shoulder is freely given. We will help as best able and refer you when needed to the best source of help we are able to find. Don’t ever feel alone ALL ARE WELCOME! You are always welcome here. This monastery, this house of the Lord, belongs to everyone who loves the Lord. It belongs to those who want to get to know the Lord. We are all brothers and sisters. Here you will find the best understanding friend ever. His name is Jesus and He resides here in a special way. His quiet room is in the chapel where He is just as real as you or I, disguised as bread and wine. There in the tabernacle He waits to spend some quality time with you. He wants to hear all about your troubles and your joys. He wants to share your sadness as well as your laughter. His arms are strong to uphold you and He has broad shoulders to lean on. Won’t you come and visit Him?
BOOK AND VIDEO LIBRARY We are about to put the final touches on our Free Lending Video (Christian and Family) and Book Library. We could always use some volunteers. Also we need more free standing shelves.
